HAIKU DRAWING DAY with poet Elisabeth Bletsoe and artist Frances Hatch - copy
DAY WORKSHOP at Unit 1, Basepoint, Jubilee Close, Weymouth, DT47BS
June 1st 11.00am-4.00pm
HAIKU DRAWING DAY with poet Elisabeth Bletsoe and artist Frances Hatch who have developed a site responsive practice and have established a close understanding through collaborating since 2009. The intention is to be mindful of our marks and words and to respond attentively to the experience of place. The aim is to connect intimately with our environment in whatever way it presents.
The day begins at Frances’ studio and will expand into the surrounding landscape. Inspired by Japanese verse forms which embody close observations of nature, Elisabeth and Frances will encourage the creation of short poems/marks that capture an "essence". These can be held privately or shared and linked with others.
Artists need to be able to walk at least a mile (very slowly with lots of pauses!) with materials.
As the tittle suggests we have opted for restraint.
With this in mind:
Please dress for the weather.
Bring a snack for a picnic lunch.
Bring a pen and pencil and a ruck sac to put things in.
Participants will be provided with:
Paper and a very limited set of tools.
Coffee and biscuits available on arrival from 10.30am onwards. The workshop will begin at 11am. Refreshment when we return to the studio around 3pm. The last hour will be spent sharing our words and marks back at the studio.
Limited numbers. Book via the link on Frances’ website. £40.
Please provide Frances with a telephone number to phone in case of unforeseen circumstances but the aim is to work with weather- whatever it may be.
