I'm packing to return to Dartmoor tomorrow with the intention to explore high moorland from a base near Lydford in which these ancient woods nestle. I need to spend some time with the landscape and the stuff of it. The research visit in October (see accompanying images) confirmed my desire to be with it again. I'm also hoping to link up with two practitioners: Sophy White an artist who works with earth pigments and Merlyn Chesterman, a printmaker whose studio is in Hartland on the North Devon Coast. Merlyn, a colleague of mine at West Dean College, works with that delicious pigment Bideford Black.
The dog doesn't know it yet but he isn't invited this time…
