I'm offering in this post a glimpse into an hitherto unmentioned strand running through my year: that of collaboration and improvisation. Safehouse meets at St Aldhelm's Chuch in Branksome once a month. I've been a part of Safehouse now for about 10 years. It's format and character changes ceaselessly. It remains a space for experimenting with music, sound & art. The only requirement for participation is a readiness to leave all habits at the door. I've participated in all kinds of ways over the years and I always contribute some sounds as well as marks on paper. These small studies from the last couple of sessions are not brave at all...they are simple line evocations of musicians- some of whom are long-standing members and friends. Other artists take part. Visit the Safehouse- Poole Facebook page to get an idea of the quality of our time together. Frozen Orchestras of Lost Sound is the result of creative partnerships forged initially through Safehouse.
This digital platform offers a forum for me to reflect further on what informs my material practice.
